Press Release 2008
One UOB, One Heartbeat, One Objective
UOB (Malaysia) Unites To Say "Yes" To Child Protection
Kuala Lumpur, 15 December 2008 - United Overseas Bank (Malaysia) Bhd ["UOB (Malaysia)"] embarked on its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme with a strong beat with the inaugural UOB Heartbeat Run. This run was part of UOB (Malaysia)'s nationwide charity drive (via pledge cards distributed to more than its 3,000 staff) in support of child protection in Malaysia. The run, only open to UOB (Malaysia) staff, was held on 13 December 2008 at Taman Tasik Perdana, Kuala Lumpur with an overwhelming turnout of more than 800 participants.
"The UOB Heartbeat Run was inaugurated in Singapore in 2007 as part of the Bank's CSR programme in helping the less fortunate in our community. In our effort to emulate our parent bank's effort in CSR, UOB (Malaysia) is proud to organise the Malaysian version of UOB Heartbeat Run," said Mr Chan Kok Seong, Director and Chief Executive Officer, UOB (Malaysia).
All funds collected from the pledge cards will be donated to UOB (Malaysia)'s named beneficiary, Protect and Save the Children Association of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur ("P.S. The Children"). These funds will be used to conduct one of P.S. The Children's "Keeping Me Safe" programmes targeted at primary school-going children.
Added Mr Chan, "As a parent, I strongly believe it is important to keep our children safe, both physically and emotionally. The Bank will match one-to-one for every Ringgit raised through the UOB Heartbeat Pledge Card. I hope all UOB (Malaysia)'s staff nationwide will join us in our first step towards being a socially-responsible organisation. Let our hearts' beat together for a common - say YES to Child Protection."
