A record turnout of more than 1,600 at the 10th annual UOB Heartbeat Run/Walk

Colleagues, families and friends rally together to raise RM200,000 for children charities

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 8 July 2018 - This morning, more than 1,600 United Overseas Bank (Malaysia) Bhd (UOB Malaysia) colleagues, their families and friends were up bright and early at the annual UOB Heartbeat Run/Walk to raise funds and to show their support for three children charities.

A total of RM200,000 was raised this year for HOPE Worldwide Malaysia , Teach for Malaysia and Yayasan Sunbeams Home to help children from challenging socio-economic backgrounds realise their potential through education. A cheque was presented to the three beneficiaries at Perdana Botanical Gardens in Kuala Lumpur, today. The funds, distributed equally across the three charities, will be used for teacher training and English proficiency programmes across the country, as well as help pay for tuition classes, school books and meals for the children.

The UOB Heartbeat Run/Walk, held annually, is the Banks main fundraising and volunteering event that brings UOB Malaysia colleagues and their families together for a good cause. It is part of the UOB Heartbeat Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programme, which focuses on children, education and art.

Mr Wong Kim Choong, Chief Executive Officer, UOB Malaysia said,The UOB Heartbeat CSR Programme unites our colleagues, their families and friends in initiatives for the benefit of our communities. Through partnership, philanthropy and participation, the UOB Heartbeat programme demonstrates our long-term commitment to strengthening the bonds of society.

This year we are pleased to be supporting HOPE worldwide Malaysia, Teach for Malaysia and Yayasan Sunbeams Home. We wanted to contribute to the cause of these beneficiaries because the care and education that these organisations give the children are truly remarkable.

The UOB Heartbeat Run/Walk featured a ten-kilometre run, a five-kilometre family walk and a carnival, which had an array of activities and stage performances that kept UOB Malaysia employees, their family members and friends, as well as representatives from the Bank three beneficiaries entertained

About the UOB Heartbeat Run/Walk

The UOB Heartbeat Run/Walk was held simultaneously today in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand and for the first time, Vietnam. In all, more than 17,000 UOB employees and their families took part in the event across the region to raise funds for local beneficiaries.
